NO STOPPING BRICKS! CBD-Cordon, Zone 2

Christchurch CBD-cordon, Zone 2 focus. National State-of-Emergency, Wed 09.03.11. Two weeks post 22 February 2011 quake, M6.3, as I'd already trekked some of the recently opened Zone 2 of the CBD-cordon, including a box of roads between north-south Barbadoes St & Fitzgerald Ave, & east-west Cashel St & Moorhouse Ave, I wanted to trek more of Zone 2 in the CBD-cordon.

I wanted to see Zone 2 northern section, including Fitzgerald Ave, Oxford Tce beside Avon Loop, Gloucester St & Worcester St, past & present associations. Near Leah's London St school, I'd already been in part of Zone 2 cordon during 22 February 2011 quake afternoon. Days later, a NZDF-soldier let me walk along deserted Fitzgerald Ave inside the CBD-cordon a bit.

09.03.11. Steel mesh fence cordon. Feb 22 quake damaged bldg, Rossall St, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake damaged Rangi Ruru School bldg, Rossall St, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Concrete block bracing, Feb 22 quake damaged garden wall, Rossall St, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake damaged house (soon demolished) Rossall St, national state of emergency

On my drive from Burnside to Christchurch-CBD, I stopped on Rossall St St to coolpix damage near Rangi Ruru School: Demolished-shop, serial damaged-business, three workmen on a scaffold, wearing yellow, Hi-Vis vests installed wall-boards covering a part-collapsed parapet. Three broken two-storey houses (1: roof-repairs. 2: wall-boarded, ground to roof. 3: top-storey wall torn off showing "dolls-house" room). Fallen-brick garden-wall. Concrete-block & wood-braced, concrete garden-wall. Some of those buildings were already damaged by the 4 September 2010 quake & aftershocks & were trashed by the 22 February 2011 quake. I'd often seen that pattern of ruining of old brick-buildings & old stone-buildings. Already hazardous, why were those ruined-buildings not demolished post 4 September 2010 quake?

09.03.11. Orange, plastic, road cone cordon. Olive NZDF LAV, Bealey Ave / Park Tce, zone 4, national state of emergency

Martial-law, Bealey Ave / Park Tce: Olive LAV parked behind an orange-plastic-road-cone-cordon by NZDF-soldiers. The olive LAV circulated around CBD-cordons, impressing rubberneckers. The LAV & NZDF-soldiers were there to intimidate "looters," a media-narrative. But citizens had already endured six quake-months with many aftershocks. While I trekked Zone 2 that day, I saw the grey, cop-helicopter circling noisily above the CBD-cordon. The cop-helicopter was borrowed from Auckland.

09.03.11. Fitzgerald Ave, zone 3 view, silt cleared Alexandra St with portaloos, national state of emergency

09.03.11. White, plastic, tape cordon. Feb 22 quake damaged houses, Fitzgerald Ave, zone 3, national state of emergency

London St: Undertaker business did a brisk trade lately. Undertaker adverts on TV showed an oily undertaker grinning inanely, his fat wife, short-haired, looking dutifully mawkish. That night an undertaker on TV news complained about "tactics" of Jap cameramen camped roadside near his business. WTF!br />

09.03.11. DANGER. White, plastic, tape cordon. Passing civvies & slack NZDF soldiers on "looted" chairs, Cambridge Tce / Fitzgerald Ave, zone 3, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Fitzgerald Ave, zone 3 view, Avon Loop & damaged Oxford Tce, zone 2, Ntional State-of-emergency. Seen from collapsed Fitzgerald Ave north-bound lane

Fitzgerald Ave / Cambridge Tce: Two NZDF-soldiers lounged on looted / abandoned? chairs on the footpath, watching three rubberneckers passing their DANGER white-plastic-barrier-tape-cordon. Again, slack NZDF-soldiers didn't inspire confidence.

Fitzgerald Ave: Two ghost-houses, red-stickered, side brick-walls collapsed, brick-rubble in driveway. Two workmen wearing yellow, Hi-Vis vests shovelled quakemire onto a roadside pile, where mud had oozed, forming a liquefaction-boil, swamping the footpath, hours post 22 February 2011 quake. From the road-island I snapped Alexandra St, portalooed & cleaned. On 22 February 2011 quake day the road was quakemired.

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake, north bound Fitzgerald Ave collapse by Avon Loop, zone 3, national state of emergency

Fitzgerald Ave: Traffic in Zone 3 was confined to two orange-plastic-road-coned, bumpy-lanes, near roadside-cracks & a massive sinkhole at Avon Loop, where Fitzgerald Ave, northbound-lane had collapsed. One side of the road by Avon river near a concrete-wall, the sinkhole was about 100m long, two lanes wide, with huge longitudinal-cracks in the sunken-tarseal & huge pile of road-rubble at one end. Another cameraman wombled past. We both snapped each other at either end of the road-sinkhole, to show its size. And continued, he to Bealey Ave, me beside Avon River.

09.03.11. Orange, plastic, road cone cordon. Feb 22 quake damaged Fitzgerald Ave by Avon Loop, zone 3, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake buckled footpath, Fitzgerald Ave by Avon Loop, zone 3, national state of emergency

09.03.11. 50 km/h speed limit sign. Feb 22 quake buckled footpath by Fitzgerald Ave Bridge over Avon River, Kilmore St cnr, zone 3, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake, road buckling by Fitzgerald Ave Bridge over Avon River, Kilmore St cnr, zone 3, national state of emergency

Fitzgerald Ave / Kilmore St: Huge road-cracks, some repaired. Buckled roadside. A section of concrete-curb overlapped another bit, sticking up about one metre in the air. The road-island by the bridge was badly cracked. Also River Rd going off Fitzgerald Ave was deeply cracked. St John Ambulance men tended an old man's bloody face. He'd tripped over roadside damage.

Kilmore St / Oxford Tce: After crossing Avon River, I left Zone 3 & entered Zone 2.

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake cracked Oxford Tce & gravel road repairs, zone 2, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Grey portaloo, Feb 22 quake liquefactioned & cracked Oxford Tce, zone 2, national state of emergency

Oxford Tce, Avon Loop: Jake house-flatted there years before. Road deeply cracked, cracks ranging from half a metre to one metre wide, massive slumping of Avon River's true-right-bank, deeply cracked, huge liquefaction-boils in places. Lateral-spreading started by the 4 September 2010 quake just widened in the 22 February 2011 quake. Later CERA would red-zone houses along Oxford Tce in the Avon Loop & demolish them. I passed a collapsed, brick, garden-wall. DANGER was yellow spay-painted on it. A car's wheels were trapped in a crack near the road curb.

09.03.11. DANGER. Feb 22 quake collapsed, brick wall, Oxford Tce, zone 2, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Car trapped in Feb 22 quake crack, caused by lateral spreading, Oxford Tce, zone 2, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake cracked, liquefactioned Oxford Tce, zone 2, national state of emergency

On a white-wall bordering apartments, USAR / TF, yellow spray-painted graffiti:

ALL UNITS DAMAGED KEEP OUT

There were many red-stickered, ghost-houses on that section of Oxford Tce. Willows did fine, but a Lebanon cedar leaned by the river. Oxford Tce road-repairs were progressing, road-workers eating lunch, seated under willows. Opposite Bangor St, a yellow-digger stood by a tilted, Victorian brick-pumphouse by the river, a big sinkhole by the pumphouse. Huge quakemire heaps on Oxford Tce. The tilted brick-pumphouse would survive the 2010-2013 quakes, only building left there, after CERA's residential red-zone demolitions.

Although Jake's former house-flat on Oxford Tce was liquefactioned in the 4 September 2010 quake, there was no further damage in the 22 February 2011 quake. CERA would red-zone the house-flat & demolished it.

09.03.11. Oxford Tce repairs, zone 2, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Post Feb 22 quake roadworks by quake tilted, Bangor St pump house, Oxford Tce / Bangor St zone 2, national state of emergency. Bangor St brick pump house would survive the 2010-2013 quakes, only bldg left there, after CERA's residential red zone demolitions

09.03.1.1 Oxford Tce view: Avon Loop ducks on a liquefaction silt island, zone 2, national state of emergency. Quake damaged jetty. Quake cracked Cambridge Tce on opp bank

A new mud-island, with ducks, had formed in Avon River. Cambridge Tce across the river was also cracked near Barbadoes St Cemetery. Holiday Inn ghost by Avon River was steel-mesh-fence-cordoned, the carpark deserted by the no access, red-zone CBD-cordon. No NZDF-soldiers nor cops in sight. Holiday Inn would be demolished, but the demolition-site would stay empty. 2023. Still empty surrounded by a board-fence. Pre-quakes we visited that Holiday Inn, whan an Auckland nurse friend stayed there. High-rise, Holiday Inn ghost seen in the CBD- cordon would also be demolished by CERA, 2012.

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake cracked Avon River bank, Oxford Tce & quake tilted house, zone 2, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Orange, plastic, road cone cordon. Feb 22 quake cracked Oxford Tce, zone 2, national state of emergency. Lateral spreading towards Avon River bank

09.02.11. Oxford Tce, steel mesh fence cordon, between zone 2 & red zone Barbadoes St. Abandoned CBD high rises beyond.

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake damaged, steel mesh fence cordoned Holiday Inn, Oxford Tce, national state of emergency. Holiday Inn would be demolished

I turned back along no-exit Hurley St. trekked through Walnut Tree Park. I rejoined Kilmore St via liquefactioned Bangor St, mud not removed yet. Another ruined concrete-curb. Three women chatted on Hurley St, but I didn't snap their damaged house, its side, brick-wall ripped off. I tried not to intrude while snapping. Most of those roads in Avon Loop would be red-zoned by CERA, ghost-houses demolished.

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake, liquefaction silted, Bangor St, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake snapped, concrete curb, Bangor St, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Quake damaged, wood braced bldg, Kilmore St nr Fitzgerald Ave, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Kilmore St view, Feb 22 quake trashed brick bldgs & car, national state of emergency

Kilmore St / Fitzgerald Ave again: Pomeroy's Old Brewery Inn: brick-walls wood-braced, brick-parapet blue-tarped, would survive the 2010-2013 quakes. Another brick-building: brick-gable fallen, roof-trusses exposed, brick-rubble in carpark. Car crushed by fallen bricks.

Fitzgerald Ave: Pickwicks brick-ghosts haunted the next block, an antiques business gone. Massive damages to Pickwicks buildings, some three-storeys high: Roof collapsed in places exposing trusses. Parapets & upper brick-walls ripped off, rooms exposed, office-furniture scattered, brick-rubble on footpath & road, behind a steel-mesh-fence-cordon. Hot-water-cylinder on high, leaned perilously. (Most Pickwicks buildings would be demolished). I snapped from the road-island, taking my chances under trees, rather than snapping amongst loose-bricks, road-cracks, potholes & steel-mesh-fence-cordons which caused dangerously weaving traffic.

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake trashed Pickwicks (later demolished) Fitzgerald Ave, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake trashed Pickwicks (later demolished) Fitzgerald Ave, national state of emergency

I used a plastic-portaloo on the road-island by Pickwicks, traffic roaring past either side, unnerving. Grubby portaloo: smelly blue-chemicals in the plastic-pot, toilet paper in a plastic-dispenser. A plastic-urinal was also available.

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake trashed Pickwicks (later demolished) Fitzgerald Ave, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Blue portaloo on road isle, near Feb 22 quake trashed Pickwicks (later demolished) Fitzgerald Ave, national state of emergency

Fitzgerald Ave: I trekked past four ruined-houses: 1. House obscured by trees. Concrete-block garden-wall collapsed onto footpath. 2. Red-stickered ghost-house: Brick garden-wall part-collapsed on footpath. USAR / TF graffiti, yellow spray-painted on the brick-wall. White, plastic-barrier-tape-cordoned. 3. Red-stickered ruined-house: Roof-tiles gone. Steel-mesh-fence-cordoned. 4. Roof-tiles gone. Collapsed side brick-wall, two rooms exposed. Fallen-bricks neatly stacked in garden. Steel-mesh-fence-cordoned.

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake toppled, concrete brick wall, Fitzgerald Ave, national state of emergency

09.03.11. White, plastic, tape cordon. Feb 22 quake damaged, brick wall & red stickered house, Fitzgerald Ave, national state of emergency. USAR / TF graffiti on wall

09.03.11. Steel mesh fence cordon. Fitzgerald Ave, wood & sidewall, brick house trashed by the Feb 22 quake, national state of emergency. House would be demolished

Gloucester St: I trekked past ruined-housing, both sides of the street, still not connected to water, to two NZDF-soldiers & three red-overalled NZRT men wearing orange hard-hats behind the red-zone, steel-mesh-fence CBD-cordon, Gloucester St / Barbadoes St crossing. Cars drove by, then turned at the fence-cordon. Noone else. Damages: Collapsed concrete-block, carpark wall, Gloucester Motor Company. Brick-rubble heaps lay in gardens. House brick-walls were cracked. House brick-walls were peeled off, exposing rooms. A brick- gatepost in three pieces lay on the footpath. A collapsed brick-chimney left a gaping hole in a two-storey Heritage house, bricks flung onto an iron-roof below.

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake toppled, garage wall, Gloucester St, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake damaged house, Gloucester St, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake damaged house, Gloucester St, national state of emergency. USAR's spray-painted C on letterbox wall meant Clear, no bodies

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake trashed, old brick house, Gloucester St, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake toppled, brick gate post, Gloucester St, national state of emergency

09.03.11. ROAD CLOSED. Steel mesh fence cordon. NZDF soldiers & red overalled, NZRT at fence cordon between zone 2 & no access, red zone, Gloucester St / Barbadoes St crossing, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake damaged, 2 storey house, Gloucester St / Fitzgerald Ave, national state of emergency

Gloucester St / Fitzgerald Ave: Owner of the 1880s Heritage, two-storey house, brick-chimney collapsed, later wanted Council to give $3-4 million to revamp his property into an arts-precinct, with a small theatre, east side of the CBD. (Weekend Press 14.10.11). Wishful-thinking! Post-quakes, just one example of businessmen trying to socialize costs & privatize profits. Pre-quakes, owners of dangerous old, brick-buildings had years to strengthen buildings. Expecting ratepayers to repair their ruins under the guise of community schemes was corrupt!

Greed would escalate to NZ National government level when CERA & CDDU would socialize costs & privatize profits with "anchor projects," like CERA's Blueprint Convention Centre, paid by taxpayers. Hotels would then profit from Convention Centre visitors. As for CERA's Blueprint Stadium between Madras St & Barbadoes St, projected costs would balloon to over half a billion NZ dollars by 2022, before construction started. Who would pay? 2024. An escalating costs farrago would happen with Christ Church Cathedral reinstatement! Who would pay?

09.03.11. Blue portaloo, Fitzgerald Ave, between Gloucester St & Worcester St crossings, national state of emergency

Worcester St: I trekked to two NZDF-soldiers at the NO ENTRY steel-mesh-fence CBD-cordon. I snapped ruined-houses I'd snapped post Boxing Day quake, trashed by the 22 February 2011 quake, four houses in a row. USAR / TF had spray-painted C (Clear, no bodies) on garden-fences. Roofs were damaged. Wooden-gables were fallen. Brick-chimneys were fallen. Brick-rubble was in gardens & on footpaths. Brick-parapets & brick-walls were toppled, rooms exposed, showing furniture. Why were those unsafe houses not demolished after earlier quakes? One two-storey wooden-house was OK, wood-boarded & steel-braced, unaffected by the 22 February 2011 quake. The steel-bracing was adequate for the 22 February quake.

09.03.11. Worcester St house damaged by the Sept 4 quake, trashed by the Feb 22 quake, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Orange, plastic, road cones. Steel mesh fence cordon. NZDF guards between zone 2 & no access, CBD red zone, Worcester St / Barbadoes St crossing, national state of emergency

09.03.11. NO ENTRY. Orange, plastic, road cones. Steel mesh fence cordon. Yellow, Hi-Vis vested, NZDF soldier & demolition site in CBD red zone, Worcester St / Barbadoes St crossing, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake damaged, wood & brick, fire wall houses, Worcester St, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Wood & side wall, brick house, damaged in the Sept 4 quake, trashed in the Feb 22 quake, Worcester St, national state of emergency

09.02.11. DANGER KEEP OUT. Red, plastic, tape cordon. Serial quake trashed housing, post Feb 22 quake, Worcester St, national state of emergency. USAR / TF graffito, C on fence meant Clear, no bodies

09.03.11. White, plastic, tape cordon. Feb 22 quake trashed house, Worcester St, national state of emergency

By a modern bulding, book-ended by two, old, brick-walls, cracked by the 22 February 2011 quake, yellow-words were spray-painted by USAR / TF or NZRT on a driveway: NO STOPPING BRICKS! Two workmen on scaffolding boarded up a damaged two-storey wall, where bricks had fallen off the wall-top.

I turned at the steel-mesh-fence CBD-cordon & crossed Fitzgerald Ave , to trek east along Worcester St past more red- stickered, ruined-housing to Stanmore Rd: A quake-bricked Mercedes was parked by a ruined-house, brick side-wall fallen, a heap of rubble, two rooms exposed. Tilted stone-garage, wall cracked. More house brick-walls & garden-walls were fallen, brick-rubble in gardens. Three green wooden-drawers were discarded on the footpath.

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake toppled, concrete brick wall, Worcester St, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Discarded wooden drawers on pavement, post Feb 22 quake, Worcester St, national state of emergency

Worcester St / Stanmore Rd: I snapped close-ups of ruin brick-buildings I passed on my daily-treks, driving Luke to Sullivan Ave tech campus. Luke had enjoyed his "holiday," catching up with mates, provided by post-quake, tech closure. Luke would resume tech on 14 March 2011 after tech building-inspections.

09.03.11. White, plastic, tape cordon. Feb 22 quake damaged brick house, Worcester St, national state of emergency

Hibbards Butchery was relocated from Stanmore Rd, after 4 September 2010 damage, around the corner to Worcester St. Hibbards Butchery was flattened by the22 February quake. Not the only time that happened to Christchurch businesses. Likewise, Visions business which had relocated across Stanmore Rd to the Argonaut was smashed twice by the two quakes.

Two people died in Wicks Fish during 22 February 2011, when a neighbour's brick-wall collapsed onto the fish shop. 4 September 2010 damaged shops, Worcester St / Stanmore Rd, had teetered for months behind a steel-mesh-fence-cordon, brick-walls fallen, holes covered in tarps.

Except for Talon Arms, the old, brick, shop-ruins would soon be demolished post 22 February 2011 quake. Why were those old, brick-buildings not demolished post 4 September quake? Council had allowed "business-as-usual" in death-traps, like Wicks Fish, next to unsafe, trashed buildings. Deaths resulted from faulty inspections by Council & EQC & building-owners' complacency! Council's red-stickers, or yellow-stickers, or green-stickers, for quick external-inspections of buildings, were confusing, inconsistent with private engineering inspection-stickers recording paltry external-inspections. EQC hadn't even told Wicks Fish that EQC deemed the $4 shop next-door dangerous prior to the 22 February 2011 quake!

Never mind pre-quakes, engineering cock-ups at CTV mult-storey prior to 2010-11 quakes. The future Royal Commission of Inquiry would reveal that fiasco!

Manchester St: 22 February 2011 quake: Jake's friend was killed trying to escape a death-trap, which should've been closed by Council post 4 September 2010 quake. There were many more death-traps. CD & CERA, behind the CBD-cordon, would go into demolition-frenzy post 22 February 2011 quake, demolishing ruins & hiding Council's & building-owners' negligence to strengthen rickety buildings.

09.03.11. Red, plastic, tape cordon. Feb 22 quake damaged shops, Worcester St / Stanmore Rd, national state of emergency. June 13 quake, the shops would collapse & would be demolished

11.03.11. Hibbards Butchery trashed in Feb 22 quake, Worcester St, national state of emergency. Hibbards had moved from Stanmore Rd post Sept 4 quake damage. Hibbards would be demolished

09.03.11. Sept 4 quake damaged, boarded Talon Arms next to Wicks Fish, trashed by Feb 22 quake, Worcester St / Stanmore Rd, national state of emergency. Talon Arms would survive the 2010-13 quakes

09.03.11. Dried flower tribute on steel mesh fence cordon, 2 people killed in Wick Fish, Worcester St / Stanmore Rd, national state of emergency. Wicks Fish would be demolished

09.03.11. Steel mesh fence cordon. Serial quake trashed $4 shop (later demolished) Worcester St / Stanmore Rd, national state of emergency. $4 shop wall collapsed into Wicks Fish next door, killing 2 people

09.03.11. Steel mesh fence cordon. Quake trashed shops (later demolished) Stanmore Rd

Stanmore Rd: Standing below steel-mesh-fence-cordoned, ruined-shop I sapped Argonaut demolition: a yellow-digger on a brick rubble-heap smashed Argonaut to bits. Argonaut survived the 4 September 2010 quake, but collapsed in the 22 February 2011 quake. Three Singapore, USAR / TF blokes, wearing black-overalls, white hard-hats, stood around, in case the digger-operator came unstuck in his dusty demolition-work behind a steel-mesh-fence-cordon. Two yellow, Hi-Vis vested cops directed traffic & waylaid pedestrians & gawkers.

Stanmore Rd, Public Toilet door, printed-sign:
TOILETS CLOSED UNTIL
    INSPECTIONS HAVE
    BEEN CARRIED OUT

Council was quick to close public-toilets post 22 February 2011 quake, but slow to close death-traps post 4 September 2010 quake & Boxing Day Quake. Early days post-quakes, those without home-toilets dug their own toilets in their gardens, or made their own out of buckets, until authorities distributed portaloos & chemical-toilets.

Toilets & underground sewage-pipes were trashed by quakes. 1 000s of citizens needed portaloos or chemical-toilets for months to come. Jake included. Many would use chemical-toilets at home; or garden-toilets, or roadside portaloos for years. Imagine wandering the street for a crap at a roadside portaloo, your neighbours & passersby watching. And having to regularly empty your chemical-toilet into a roadside, green-plastic drum viewed by neighbours, pedestrians & passing traffic. Multiply that 1 000s of times. Christchurch in deep shit!

09.03.11. Feb 22 quake crack, due to lateral spreading, River Rd by Stanmore Rd Bridge, national state of emergency

Stanmore Rd: More damage: Flooded, liquefactioned, roadside sinkhole by a liquefactioned park. Repaired "ski jump" on road over Stanmore Rd Bridge abutment. Road-repairs to Avonside Dr cracks & River Rd cracks, caused by lateral- spreading. Warnings spray-painted on business rickety-walls: KEEP WELL CLEAR, DONT PARK HERE.

09.03.11. KEEP WELL CLEAR, liquefactioned brick bldg, Stanmore Rd, national state of emergency

09.03.11. DONT PARK HERE, unstable, braced wall, Stanmore Rd, national state of emergency

09.03.11. HireQuip loo, liquefactioned Stanmore Rd, national state of emergency

London St: Leah still cleaned her classroom after two days' labour with a colleague. I snapped an orange-digger & truck removing choking quakemire, at last, 15 days post 22 February 2011. They'd left a large mud-boil on the footpath near Leah's classroom. Quakemire had dried, ground to fine powder by gridlock-traffic & pedestrians. (A month post 22 February 2011, the rest of London St quakemire would be dug away by prisoners. No do-gooder Student Army diggers or Farmy Army diggers for London St). I Coolpixed dusty portaloos on London St. Used one. Again.

Leah's school, Richmond Working Men's Club, London St & Stanmore Rd would be heavily liquefactioned in the 13 June 2011 quake. Again.

09.03.11. Orange digger loading liquefaction silt into a truck by Richmond Working Mens Club, London St, national state of emergency. The quake trashed cnr section of Richmond Working Mens Club would be demolished 6 months post Feb 22 quake & two months post June 13 quake

09.03.11. Liquefaction boil, London St pavement. Prisoners would dig it away a month post Feb 22 quake, national state of emergency. The mud boil would reappear in the June 13 quake

09.03.11. Blue, Port o Let loo, London St house, national state of emergency

09.03.11. Plastic rubbish bins. Steel mesh fence cordon. Liquefaction silt volcano, silted pavement, London St, national state of emergency. New flats would be built atop the silt volcano!

09.03.11. Home made, spray-painted, speed limit sign, liquefactioned Perth St, national state of emergency

Perth St: Home-made, spray-painted, speed-limit sign:

20 KM
PLEASE

Home-made speed limit-signs were found on trashed roads for months post-quakes, as fast traffic & heavy trucks bumping past, felt like quakes for those enduring trashed housing. Heavy traffic rumbling past caused more damage to broken-buildings.

March would be a productive blogging month: I would write 13 March posts involving checking The Press for information about forbidden sections of Christchurch being opened by authorities for public access. I would drive to the opened section, trek quaked streets, snap quake pics, drive home to Burnside, upload pics to my computer, edit pics, write a blog post, upload pics from my computer to my blog, caption pics. Each blog post would involve many hours, setting my blogging template for the next three quake years, 2011-13. And many years thereafter, editing quake posts, updating new information, like demolitions & rebuilds.
